Preview The Most Haunted Locations In Wichita

Eaton Place

Anyone who’s considered living at the former Hotel Eaton may want to reconsider reds and pinks in their home. The lady with the blue handkerchief may be harmless, but she won’t hesitate to steal anything rose-colored.

Orpheum Theatre

The presence of a former stage manager tries to keep things on track, but be mindful of the falling sandbag that may be an indicator of their tragic demise.

Wichita-Sedgwick County Museum

Icy fingers wrap around your wrist, or a force knocks you to the ground. It’s just another day working at Wichita-Sedgwick County Museum.

Welcome To Wichita Ghosts

A cold wind blows through Wichita, the whispers of an unseen force beckoning you deeper into the city. Discover what vile specters, benevolent ghosts, and haunting apparitions crowd the old streets and buildings of the Air Capital of the World.

An Eternal Fight Between a Specter and the Inebriated

The only tragedy of this ghostly tale is the amount of alcohol lost to the ethereal presence that hovers around the bronze statue of Carrie Nation. Hatchet in hand, the statue depicts Miss Nation, an individual who wasn’t known for violence. Unless, of course, we’re talking about the many times she took a hatchet to several bars around the city.

Join Wichita Ghosts in exploring one of the city’s most unique haunts, a spirit whose post-mortem vengeance isn’t directed toward the living. Chuckle at this seemingly ridiculous intelligent specter until it’s revealed why a woman of the 19th century would be strongly against the consumption of alcohol.

Whatever drove Carrie Nation to loathe beer and the like generated enough energy to anchor her spirit to the realm of the living. Those who catch a glimpse of the unusual specter may notice the hatchet in her hand and run, but the living need not fear. That’s reserved for the bartops around town — specifically the one at Hotel Eaton.

What Will I See?

Visit Wichita’s Most Haunted Locations, Including:

  • Wichita-Sedgwick County Museum – Icy fingers wrap around your wrist, or a force knocks you to the ground. It’s just another day working at Wichita-Sedgwick County Museum.
  • Orpheum Theatre – The presence of a former stage manager tries to keep things on track, but be mindful of the falling sandbag that may be an indicator of their tragic demise.
  • Eaton Place – Anyone who’s considered living at the former Hotel Eaton may want to reconsider reds and pinks in their home. The lady with the blue handkerchief may be harmless, but she won’t hesitate to steal anything rose-colored.

The Specter of Wichita’s Main Stage

All the world’s a stage. Unless it’s the spirit trapped within the ornate Orpheum Theatre. Join Wichita Ghosts on a trip through the Orpheum’s centuries-old history, where the colorful characters, like the stage manager who never quits, are introduced.

Crowds still pile through the Orpheum Theatre’s doors to drink in the old-school decorative beauty and enjoy an evening of live entertainment. The energy from the excitement only fuels Mr. Thompson, the hard-working specter still managing the backstage.

Those who catch a glimpse of Mr. Thompson may get more than just an insider’s look at the Orpheum’s earlier years. They may get a clue as to why the former stage manager refuses to or can’t leave and find peace in the afterlife.

The Rose Thief of an Iconic Hotel

From the uplifting to the heartbreaking, the flow of energy throughout a hotel is dense. In some, like the former Hotel Eaton, it’s stronger than others, especially when tragedy is a part of a long history.

Explore the stories of Eaton Place circa the 20th century with Wichita Ghosts to try and uncover the identity of the “Blue Handkerchief Ghost.” Why does she love roses so much, and was she as much of a thief in life as she is after her death? Believed to be a murder victim, there’s a dark stain on Eaton Place’s past, one that’s never been resolved.

Hear about encounters with the floating specter, a fixture from the Hotel Eaton’s heyday as accommodations for weary travelers. Is she a link to one of Wichita’s unsolved murders? So little is known about the harmless apparition, but there’s always one thing that stands out: the striking cornflower-blue handkerchief gently lying around her neck.

Why is Wichita so Haunted?

The Lost Souls of Jester’s Creek

Tragic endings breed restless spirits that never find peace in the afterlife. It’s as if they’re forced to relive that moment, their anger building with each failed attempt at rewriting their history. Could this be the torment that the specter of Theorosa is forced to live through day after day?

Join Wichita Ghosts at Naftzger Park, where the cries of Theorosa are said to be carried on gusts of wind. Legend has it the young woman haunts Jester’s Creek, forever searching for the baby she lost to those very waters. How their demise came to pass may be a matter of debate, but locals don’t question the presence of the anguished mother.

A Love Triangle With a Bloody End

What horrors await behind the doors of The Broadview Hotel’s Room 605? Like a horror story come to life, the ominous phone calls to the front desk and the frantic cries heard by staff tie back to the gruesome events that unfolded in 1929.

A happy couple walked through the lobby of The Broadview Hotel, eager to enjoy the pleasantries of the hotel. Not long after, both were dead, their tragic end permanently imprinted on Room 605. Stand with Wichita Ghosts at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn and revisit the horrific murder-suicide that stained The Broadview with blood.

Darkness lingers within The Broadview Hotel, one the staff knows about all too well. Unexplainable sounds echo from behind the door of Room 605 as the murdered wife hides from the presence of her husband’s strong negative energy.

Wichita’s Most Haunted

Spectral energy flows through the town, touching sites of tragedy and historical significance. Sites like the Delano District once housed the city’s unscrupulous businesses and shady characters in a red light district that oozed an air of darkness.

Since the 1920s, McConnell Air Force Base has been building up the kind of volatile energy that only a military base can. Every raw emotion of every service member is caught within the base, leading to residual hauntings like the arrival of World War II-era aircraft and workers still serving the nation long after their passing.

Just off South 119th Street West, overlooked by the passing cars on West Harry Street, Resthaven Mortuary & Gardens of Memory serves as a resting ground for many Wichita locals. The well-manicured grounds are said to be patrolled by the dearly departed, their souls tied to the final resting place of their physical form.

A gym may be the last place you expect to find a meandering soul. The haunt at Henrion’s was the product of a terrible accident. A jolt of electricity and a stopped heart preceded the spectral figure that may never leave.
