What Is The Most Haunted Place In Arlington?

There are multiple locations that fight for the title of the most haunted place in Arlington. At Hell’s Gate, the cries of Union soldiers hanged during the Civil War still echo. In the Cemetery of Lost Infants, a phantom mother weeps over her child’s grave. Ghost girls seem to haunt every corner of the University of Texas at Arlington’s campus.

Read on to decide which spot you believe is the most haunted of them all.

The Screaming Bridge

Located in River Legacy Park, the Screaming Bridge is a graffiti-covered bridge where countless reports of paranormal phenomena have occurred. The legend started in 1961 when a group of local boys set fire to the original wooden bridge. As the bridge collapsed and smoldered, a group of teenage girls were heading down the road towards the bridge. Unable to see that the bridge was no longer there in the dark, the girls plunged to their deaths in the river below.

Since that tragic night, it’s said that if you stand in the center of the new bridge, you can hear the faint sound of girls screaming. Those brave enough to spend the night on the bridge have also encountered ghostly apparitions.

Hell’s Gate

Another haunted site in River Legacy Park is Hell’s Gate. Today, Hell’s Gate is a trail with two large fence posts on either side, but there was a gate there at one time. Through the gate, Confederate troops would lead captured Union soldiers to the hanging tree during the Civil War.

The massive amount of deaths that reportedly took place at Hell’s Gate have left a paranormal imprint on the land. Visitors to Hell’s Gate often feel as though they are being watched. Others fear the faint cries and moans of Union soldiers unable to cross over. An especially jarring sight is the apparition of a Confederate general with red hair who is seen lurking near the gates.

Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas is a popular theme park in Arlington that has seen its fair share of tragedy. Starting in the 1960s, a number of accidental deaths have led to some believing that the park is haunted. However, the most famous ghost of the park reportedly died decades before it was built.

The ghost of a girl named Annie is believed to live in a yellow house near the Texas Giant rollercoaster. According to lore, Annie died near Johnson Creek at the turn of the 20th century. She is a friendly ghost who enjoys turning the lights on and off in the yellow house. Some guests at the park also swear they have seen Annie at the Runaway Mountain attraction.

Arlington Music Hall

There are reports of multiple ghosts who haunt the historic Arlington Music Hall. The owners of the hall have encountered a ghost they have named “Fred.” Fred appeared to one owner wishing to tour the building. Fred was well dressed in a suit that seemed to be from another era. The owner turned his back for a moment and when he looked back, Fred had vanished.

There is also a female spirit and possibly one other ghost who calls Arlington Music Hall home. Paranormal phenomena include lights turning on and off on their own, unexplained footsteps, and orbs of light that have been captured in film.

Arlington’s Lost Cemetery of Infants

Also known as Berachah Cemetery, the Lost Cemetery of Infants consists of about 80 graves, most of them babies and children. The cemetery was originally part of an orphanage, and if no family came to claim a body, they were buried in the cemetery.

The abandoned cemetery is reportedly a hotbed of ghostly activity. People have seen shadow figures as well as the full-body apparition of a mother weeping over the gravestone. Paranormal investigators have heard the distant cries of children and recorded compelling EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena) inside the cemetery. There are also unexplained footsteps and cold spots near certain graves.

The Park Lane Apartments

Also known as “The Hendrix,” the Park Lane Apartments are proof that even new buildings can be haunted. Originally built in 1969, residents regularly report eerie activity in the building. The most common occurrences are faucets turning on and off by themselves and unexplained shadow figures appearing in hallways and apartment units. In some cases, the shadow figures appear to be following residents.

For years, residents have complained of a crying baby who can never be found. The fact that the unexplained crying has gone on for years indicates a potentially tragic haunting.

The University of Texas at Arlington

It’s difficult to find a spot on the University of Texas at Arlington’s campus that isn’t haunted. UTA is the former site of the Berachah Industrial Home for the Redemption of Erring Girls, which housed unhoused and unwed mothers as well as their children. Since then, countless students, faculty, and staff have seen the apparitions of young girls out of the corner of their eyes.

The main haunted spots on campus include the theatre, the school newspaper’s office, the campus center, and the Sigma Chi fraternity. Sigma Chi is haunted by a young girl named Mary, who they believe died in a fire after the Berachah Industrial Home became an orphanage. She’s often seen playing on their stairs.

Crystal Canyon

The Crystal Canyon Natural Area is the site of buried treasure according to legend. In the 1800s, a group of soldiers known as the “Battalion of Invincibles” was tasked with investigating wagons carrying illegal goods between Mexico and the Republic of Texas. Although some accounts say that the Battalion of Invincibles was dissolved in 1843, others claim they were murdered by the US government.

The Battalion of Invincibles had supposedly buried a massive amount of gold in Crystal Canyon rather than handing it over to the government. Ever since the US Army allegedly slaughtered the soldiers, their restless spirits have been seen in Crystal Canyon, apparently still trying to protect their gold.
