Lena’s Lullaby Paranormal Music Box

For some, a music box can bring back warm memories from childhood. Perhaps the box held precious jewelry or calmed you before bed. For others, however, a music box draws up visions of a horror film — when the eerie tune from a paranormal music box evokes a violent spirit.

It seems horror directors were on to something. Music boxes represent a special conduit to the other side, with spirits being drawn to the ornate object. Because of this connection, we’ve created a special music box specifically designed for paranormal investigation.

How Does a Paranormal Music Box Work?

A motion-activated music box assists in the ghost-hunting process by signaling if there’s a moving entity in an otherwise still space. This state-of-the-art ghosting hunting equipment adds a chilling ambiance to any paranormal investigation in two ways:

  1. If it’s triggered, the entire space is suddenly filled with a hauntingly beautiful classical song.
  2. A ghost hunter can turn the music box on themselves in hopes of drawing the interest of a nearby spirit. After hearing the tune, the ghost may be more willing to interact with the people in the room.

The Rise and Fall of the Music Box

It’s not too surprising that the land of the best watchmakers in the world — Switzerland — was also responsible for the advent of the music box, which includes many of the same mechanisms and gears.

In 1770, the first music box sprung onto the scene, and soon, it was the latest rage for upper-class Europeans. The clever design worked by having a cylinder or disc with precisely positioned raised pins installed on it. As you turned the key of the music box, these pins would strike the thin, metal tines of a comb.

To better visualize this, imagine playing a piano. You press down on a key to play a note, right? The same idea is true for a music box. When a pin strikes a specific metal tine, it releases a corresponding sound. The cylinders or discs could not be removed from the original music boxes, which is why they played the same song over and over.

For a hundred years, elaborate music boxes were designed and built by some of the most talented craftspeople in the entire world — each putting their own spin on the small masterpieces. However, the era of the music box was about to meet its end.

In 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph. Songs could be played louder and longer on this new machine, and the discs were easier to produce and were able to be changed out. Before long, the music box became more of a pretty trinket than a prized musical instrument.

The Music Box/Ghost Connection

Music boxes first became associated with ghost hunting when paranormal investigators would visit old homes that still had the belongings of the departed within them. As the team would be inspecting the house, they’d hear a hauntingly beautiful song echoing from a nearby room.

Upon investigating, the ghost hunter would find a music box open and turning, seemingly on its own accord. Investigators, however, knew some apparition was behind the mysterious music.

Since then, music boxes have come to be known as “trigger objects.” This is a class of items that are particularly tempting to spirits and have a higher likelihood of paranormal interaction. A music box makes the perfect trigger object because nearly any spirit that has passed in the last 300 years can identify the object (which isn’t true for many machines today). Additionally, children’s spirits are especially drawn to the toy-like device and the music that emanates from it.

Using a Ghost Hunting Music Box

Some of the best ghost-hunting equipment are the devices you can set and forget. This describes a paranormal music box perfectly.

To set up a ghost-hunting music box, you find a place with no drafts or windows where passing cars could trigger a false reading. Then, you turn on your music box, pointing its motion sensor at your desired location.

If you hear the music box play, some entity has triggered the motion sensor. Or, a ghost may have even purposely twisted the key if they wanted to hear the tune.

The Macabre Inspiration Behind Lena’s Lullaby Music Box

The little girl perched atop Lena’s Lullaby Motion-Sensing Paranormal Music Box is a tribute to one of the victims of the most horrific mass murders in the Midwest.

Lena Stillinger was just 12 years old when she went to spend the night at the Moore family’s home with her little sister, Ina. The Moores had four children around Lena and Ina’s ages, and both of the Moore parents, Josiah and Sarah, were home to look after the six kids.

It’s believed that everyone went to bed on the evening of June 10, 1912 — and tragedy struck that night.

A person entered the home and killed the entire Moore family and the two Stillinger girls in a horrific fashion. Every person was gruesomely murdered with an axe, leaving the crime scene a literal pool of blood and body parts.

After completing their crime, the killer didn’t leave straight away. Instead, they took the time to cover the mirrors, place garments over the deceased, wash the blood off their hands, make a snack, and then flee.

When Josiah’s brother discovered the bodies the next day, the entire town flew into a panic, looking for the culprit. They found no one with blood-stained clothes or anything out of the usual outside of the nightmarish home.

The law enforcement had several suspects in mind, including Josiah’s former boss, who was upset that Josiah had taken valuable clients away from his old job. There was also a schizophrenic traveling minister who claimed to have committed the murders, but juries were convinced that he had been coerced into confessing, so he was never found guilty.

To this day, the Villisca Axe Murders have never been solved, and the hand holding Lena up in the Lena Lullaby Music Box alludes to the nameless killer continuing to haunt her.

Lena’s Lullaby Paranormal Music Box was tested in the very home where Lena lost her life over 100 years ago, creating a special connection between the music box and one of the most haunted houses in America.

The Best Ghost Hunting Gear

If you want to conduct your own paranormal investigation, it’s best to go into the situation equipped with a variety of devices that could detect a spirit.

One of the most popular ghost-hunting tools is an EMF detector. These devices measure fluctuations in electromagnetic fields, which can signal that spectral activity is occurring. Another useful item to have is a light-up communication box. Equipped with two lightbulbs, this kind of device makes it easier to let a spirit answer “yes or no” to any questions.
