Welcome To Tempe Ghosts
Bred from tragedy, trauma, and the pains of life, Tempe’s haunts linger to ensure their stories are told.
The Dancing Spirit
Some spirits have a message to share, others are trapped in a loop as a residual stain on our realm. Then there are ghosts like the graceful delight of Casey Moore’s Oyster House. This benevolent apparition fills the second-floor window every morning, lost in a choreographed dance as she spins and twirls to a song only she can hear.
Delight in the wonder of the dancing spirit of Casey Moore’s with Tempe Ghosts before being jarringly pulled back to reality by her hateful counterpart. The unnamed dancing specter and the unsettled spirit said to have been killed when the oyster house was a bordello, represent the yin and yang of the spirit world. They’re joined by a third spirit, Sarah, who fell victim to a jealous lover. Sarah remains trapped in the restaurant, anchored by her violent murder.
The ghosts of Casey Moore’s Oyster House depict different types of spirits, each interacting in the environment around them in different, and often spine-chilling, ways.
What Will I See?
Visit Tempe’s Most Haunted Locations, Including:
- Casey Moore’s Oyster House – Watch the top window of this local favorite and hope to spot the twirling figure of a carefree spirit. Be wary when dining, though, as a startling vision may flash in the corner of your eye.
- Palo Verde East – Doors creak, footsteps echo, and whispers fill the air in ASU’s northern residential hall. Is it all the work of the shadowy figure spotted on the sixth floor, or are students lodging with multiple phantoms?
- The A.J. Matthews Center – Ghostly tales are common in ASU’s most historic building. From the ethereal librarian to the eerie old lady in the basement, the Matthews Center’s resident ghosts keep students checking the shadows for an unseen presence.
Don’t Mind the Shadow on the Sixth Floor
Gather a bunch of students together, and there’s a high likelihood that they’ll conceive some fantastical lore about ghouls and ghosts. For any new students at the Palo Verde East residential hall, the ghostly legend is already there.
Set your sights on the sixth floor of this ASU Tempe campus building as Tempe Ghosts recounts the haunting tales told by former students. The shadow of the sixth floor wasn’t always there, though. It’s said to be a dark stain left behind after a student took her life years ago. It’s said the shadowy figure is blamed for all manner of activity, from slamming doors to silhouettes moving just out of view.
While room 605 is a hotbed of spooky activity, the heavy air of a lost soul follows students throughout the residential hall. Perhaps all the young girl needs is someone to hear her plight, something she may not have had while still alive.
Why is Tempe so Haunted?
Haunts Aplenty at Arizona State University
Dying from an illness can be painful and traumatic. That’s likely why the wife of ASU President Grady Gammarge, Dixie, is so full of sorrow in the afterlife.
Explore the many specters of ASU with Tempe Ghosts, particularly the spirit of Dixie known to glide through the Piper Writers house. The center of creativity is just one of many haunted buildings on the ASU campus, and at least one isn’t haunted by anything human. Within the labs of the Life Sciences Tower waits a monstrosity, an impossibility of nature slinking around in the shadows.
Discover more of ASU’s spectral activity that extends well across campus to buildings like the Old Main and Wexler Hall. Within the basement of Wexler Hall, a chilling presence challenges all who step into the darkness. Outside of Memorial Union, a grizzly memory remains imprinted where a horrific crash left one dead.
Tempe’s Most Haunted
Centuries-old buildings spent years absorbing energies, both good and bad. La Casa Vieja may be a steakhouse today, but the spooky tales of wandering apparitions and eerie whispers link back to the Hayden family. It’s a name mentioned on a Tempe ghost tour, as the family’s legacy forever imprinted on the Arizona city.
What was to be a lively place for patrons to gather and enjoy libations became a space of mystery and intrigue. The Four Peaks Brewing Company’s staff faced missing objects and unusual noises before the Ghost Adventures team was called in to explore the haunting happenings. The spirits bound to this building, manifested from early tragedies and nearby train wrecks, are said to remain active today, their whispers heard just below the hum of the brewery’s operations.
