One man famously ventured out to find it, and, in a way, he did. Juan Ponce de Leon would never make it back from his excursion, remaining forever 47.
Now operating as the Casa Blanca House Museum, the 500-year-old mansion that was meant to be his residence underwent various transformations before becoming the tourist attraction it is today. But it seems the long gone Ponce de Leon family have yet to relinquish their ownership, particularly Juan’s wife, Dona Ana de Ponce de Leon.
Visitors of the museum claim to have seen the widow roaming the halls wearing a white flowing gown, while others claim to have felt her presence. However, her spirit appears to be the calm one. Poltergeist-like activity, such as doors slamming, shutting, and locking on their own, became a common occurrence, terrifying one manager to the point of contacting SyFy’s Haunted Collector.
The Ponce de Leon family confirmed their presence, terrifying Demonologist John Zaffis’s team with unexplained creaking boards and a loud bang that made them flee the house. In the 17th century, this historic site was the home of Spanish noblewoman Dona Ana Lanzos y Menendez de Valdez. Today, it’s one of the more prestigious and most haunted hotels in Puerto Rico.
As the wife of a wealthy soldier, Dona Ana sadly became a widow when her husband lost his life during the fight against the Dutch campaign. She then devoted her life to God and converted her home to the Carmelite Convent, which would go on to become a prominent religious establishment and serve the community for nearly three centuries. In 1962, it was transformed into the luxurious hotel you’ll venture to with Puerto Rico Ghosts, but within its walls, the opulence is overshadowed by its collection of tortured souls.
