Mystic & Noank Library

Conceptualized by Captain Elihu Spicer, though sadly not realized until after his passing, the Mystic & Noank Library has ties to the high seas. It may explain why its resident haunt is a sailor who never set foot on dry land again. At least, not as a corporeal being.

Mystic River Bascule Bridge

It’s not ghosts or phantoms that terrorize the Bascule Bridge. Rather, it’s the imposing, bulky figure of the mythical Pigman. Spotted on several occasions, at least once drowning a woman in the river, the Pigman seems to watch over the bridge, awaiting his next hapless victim.

The Emporium

In its heyday, Mystic’s Emporium served as a general store and post office for locals. In the aftermath of the Civil War, it’s the site of a mourning banshee whose husband never returned from battle. Her devastation in seeing her beau’s name on the casualty and Missing in Action lists posted a ...

Welcome To Mystic Haunts

Come to Mystic for the aquarium’s delights, stay to listen for the cries of the Emporium’s weeping Banshee. From a Pequot curse said to drive men from Mystic with nightmarish visions to an old haunted house tied to a Julia Roberts classic, this Connecticut favorite offers much in the way of spectral activity.

The Power of the Pequot Curse

The green, manicured grounds of Mystic River Park are a stark contrast to the blood that once soaked the earth. Mystic’s serene park is a picturesque retreat with a very dark and heinous past. From it, a cloud has formed, affecting many who have stepped foot on the comfortable blades of grass.

Take a trip through history with Mystic Haunts and listen to tales about the massacre that forever altered the region’s energy. Natives who once called this land home were ripped from their peace by the English. A massacre followed, pushing the Pequot from where Mystic River Park sits today. In their wake, bodies lay strewn about and a curse befell the small village.

Only the strong-willed can combat the power of the Pequot Curse. Vivid visions of warfare and slaughter plague many. Heavy negative energy lingers over Mystic River Park as if the souls of the damned have congregated to seek revenge for their senseless slayings.

  • The Emporium – In its heyday, Mystic’s Emporium served as a general store and post office for locals. In the aftermath of the Civil War, it’s the site of a mourning banshee whose husband never returned from battle. Her devastation in seeing her beau’s name on the casualty and Missing in Action lists posted at the Emporium became etched in the old building.

The Sorrowful Spirit of the Captain Daniel Packer Inn

When it comes to haunted locations in Mystic, few are as potent as the Captain Daniel Packer Inne. Now a restaurant that serves patrons seeking an elegant evening of food and drinks, the inn was once an 18th-century pub. The historic building was first molded by Daniel Packer, who greeted weary travelers with a welcoming glow and warm food. For decades, its air was light and comforting, until the tragedy of Ada Clift.

Revisit an age when common illnesses could prove fatal with Mystic Haunts. Hear the awful tale of Ada Clift, great-great-grandaughter to Daniel Packer who could have been a prospective owner of the inn. Instead, a bout of scarlet fever ultimately took her life at just seven years old. She may never have taken ownership, but her love of the inn shaped her afterlife.

Whispers suggest there are several specters at the inn, but Ada’s ghost is the most prominent. The young girl has been tied to poltergeist activity, particularly light mischief within the dining room. Learn more about her ghostly sightings on an eerie Mystic ghost tour.

Why is Mystic so Haunted?

The Banshee of Mystic’s Emporium

The Civil War left a mark on so much of the Eastern United States. Mystic may be a small piece of Connecticut, but even it felt the tragedy of war. As tensions flared between the North and the South, places like Mystic sent many of their own to turn the tides. Sadly, that left others waiting impatiently to hear about the safety of their loved ones.

Settle in with Mystic Haunts and listen to the tale of the grieved weeping widow of the Emporium. Once a central part of Mystic as the general store and post office, the Emporium displayed the casualty and Missing-in-Action lists of locals who joined the Civil War. For one woman, the list still haunts her today.

The banshee of the Emporium cuts through silence with her sobs. Never recovered from the loss of her beloved, she replays seeing her husband’s name on the list over and over. Rather than a restful soul, she’s returned as a troubled specter tormented by the past.

Mystic’s Most Haunted

The ghouls and ghosts of Mystic’s most haunted locations beckon travelers near and far. They call out from the belly of the Whitehall Mansion Inn, a stately manor built on the site of a former tavern. Within its walls, echoes of that earlier age blend with spirits who never left the comfort of the inn. The occasional door opening and disembodied laughter have kept guests alert for signs from the other side.

Apartments may stand tall where Factory Square was originally built, but the residuals of the old textile factory remain. One horrifying image is believed to be connected to poltergeist activity that disturbs current residents. A young boy, mutilated by the old machinery, tends to his wounds in a vision sure to breed nightmares.

Couples may exchange vows on the grounds of the Inn at Mystic, but they do so in the company of the otherworldly. Tied to the Haley Mansion, the Inn is afflicted by the echoes of a sordid love affair and an unexpected betrayal that led to a dark cloud and ample spirit activity.

5 REASONS TO BOOK YOUR MYSTIC GHOSTS TOUR RIGHT NOW!

1) You’ve Done All You Can at the Aquarium

The Mystic Aquarium may be the big attraction in the small village, but how often can you marvel at the beluga whales? A Mystic ghost tour makes for another family-friendly activity once you’ve scoured the aquarium’s depths. Despite the heavier and darker material, the ghost tour doesn’t veer into inappropriate territory for children of most ages.

2) You Want to Escape the Bustle of New York City for a Spell

Sure, Manhattan may be a two-hour car ride from Mystic, but it’s a ride worth taking. Make a day of it to get out of the city, maybe stop in New Haven for a spectral expedition, and end in Mystic just in time for your spooky activity. Alternatively, if you’re on Long Island, the ferry ride across the Long Island Sound from Orient Point is a comfortable and fun little adventure.

3) You’re Staying or Living in Groton or Stonington

Surrounding Mystic on both flanks are Groton and Stonington. As actual towns with immediate access to the New London or Stonington harbors, they do make for good alternatives to a stay in the tourist-heavy Mystic. That doesn’t mean you can’t still take advantage of Mystic’s attractions, like a thrilling ghost tour through its dark and grim history.

4) Mystic Pizza Was Among Your Favorite Movies Growing Up

No, a screening of Mystic Pizza isn’t included in any Mystic Haunts tour. However, a glimpse behind the scenes is in order as the Mystic Pizza House takes center stage during a stop that emphasizes the iconic pizzeria. You’ll leave Mystic with a neat bit of movie trivia — and ghostly knowledge — that only the most avid of Mystic Pizza fans may know.

5) You’d Like to Dine at an Incredibly Haunted Restaurant

Should you make dinner plans at the Captain Daniel Packer Inne, you should know what you’re in for. Sure, it has delicious food and a fine atmosphere, but there’s much hidden beneath the warm and welcoming facade. Before your evening at Captain Daniel Packer’s, consider booking your Mystic Haunts ghost tour to know what haunting activity to watch out for while enjoying your hot meal and chilled drinks.
