HAUNTED TALES OF THE CITY

In 1848, rich deposits of gold were discovered in the Sacramento Valley, igniting the infamous Gold Rush. Not surprisingly, with all of the greed and gold, death and tragedy soon followed.  Miners died underground, and people were attacking one another for a chance to strike it rich.

After a long day in the mines, dusty miners would wobble into local pubs to sip their cares away. Some of these bars still stand to this day, which is why we’ve researched the most haunted bars in Los Angeles and included them in our haunted pub crawl.

You can’t come to Los Angeles and not explore the dark side while tapping a little into your own. After all, that’s what the City of Angels is for! Whether you’re a tourist or just arrived to make your dreams of stardom a reality, here are a few reasons you should get to know Tinseltown with our haunted pub crawl of Los Angeles.

  • You’ve seen Madame Tussauds wax figures, and now you want to see if you can catch a glimpse of the stars in real life (or death!)
  • You want to have a drink where the celebrities throw one back.
  • You just moved here and want to know what you’re getting into.
  • You’re done with all of the kid-friendly activities for the day.
  • You want an exciting and unique way to experience the side of Hollywood you’ve only heard about.

Where You'll Go

Roosevelt Hotel/Tropicana Bar

The Roosevelt Hotel’s haunted reputation is as famous as the spirits that inhabit the place. Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, the hotel and bar have been graced by the presence of various celebrities, from Charlie Chaplin to Brad Pitt. However, its most famous ghost is that of Marilyn Monroe, who is said to haunt her former suite, number 1200. Enjoy a Trop Old Fashioned while hearing about guest run-ins with the apparition of the blonde bombshell. And keep your eyes peeled, as the ghost of Humphrey Bogart is known to frequent the bar at the Tropicana.

Boardner’s

In Hollywood, every story has a dark side, and Boardner’s is no exception. Opened in 1927, this location was originally the bar My Blue Heaven before becoming an illegal card and gambling speakeasy disguised as Morressey’s Hair Salon during prohibition. Eventually, it would be a meeting place for secret men’s societies, attracting a darkness that would make headlines and spine-chilling unexplained activity. Discover the bar’s connection to the Black Dhalia, sip on their signature Black Dhalia drink, and get your camera ready because these spirits like to put on a show.

Musso and Frank: Cabo Cantina

By now, it’s time for a drink, and Musso and Frank’s offers a signature martini that will help bring the adrenaline down just enough to prepare you for the next set of demented stories of Tinseltown. As one of the oldest restaurants in Hollywood, it was frequented by many of the decade’s biggest stars who’ve yet to leave their favorite hangout. Over the years, guests and employees have reported seeing the ghosts of Orson Wells, Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin, and a headless woman. Sit back with a Musso and Frank’s special martini (or two!), and hear the disturbing connection the restaurant/bar has to the doomed Sharon Tate.
