Preview The Most Haunted Locations In Hudson

Welcome to Hudson Ghosts

From the invasion that pushed the last of the tribes east to the revitalization of a city desperately needing a makeover, Hudson is a place of dark secrets. Hudson Ghosts reveals them all and more on this thrilling nighttime stroll through haunted Hudson.

An Opulent Ride for the Otherworldly Elite

A haunt isn’t always the product of tragedy and death. Sometimes, a true marvel of its time can leave its imprint. Such is the case of the Ghost Train of Public Square, an ethereal locomotive believed to silently breeze along the tracks that still run through the very public space.

Hudson Ghostswill transport you aboard the phantom train, a 19th-century beauty known for its crisp white motif. Fittingly known as the White Train, the locomotive traveled from Boston’s Summer Street Station to New York City, depositing socialites and well-to-do passengers for an evening in the Big Apple.

A ghostly doppelganger still runs today, drawing attention from anyone lucky enough to be outside as it cruises by. There’s no warning of its presence. No phantom whistle or a churning engine. Just a flash of an aura that leaves many questioning if they ever saw anything at all.

What Will I See?

Visit Hudson’s Most Haunted Locations, Including:

  • Terry-Gillette Mansion – An 1850s charmer, the Terry-Gillette House is a building full of memories compiled across generations of two different families. Over the years, the Italianate villa has also taken on many roles, from an Elk’s Club lodge to an antique store. Each of its iterations further buries a tragedy believed to have unfolded on the top floor: the mysterious death of a woman whose story remains untold.

  • Hudson Almshouse – Many lifetimes have unfolded within the walls of the Hudson Almshouse. Its years have bred a nest of spirits, all with unique ties to the Almshouse. Is it the residual hauntings of Dr. Samuel White’s insane asylum? Or possibly a specter that once had ties to the orphanage that once inhabited the 19th-century space. There are many possibilities dotting the timeline of the structure’s 200-year history.

  • Hudson Area Library – The Hudson Area Library retained some of the essence of the armory that existed within the same walls years prior. The attached tower, which gives off the appearance of a fortress, is definitely not normal for a library — but neither is the ghostly activity the building’s known for. Could something awful have left a terrible dark stain that manifests as a restless spirit?

The Tortured Lives of the State Street Almshouse

It would be difficult to find a building that served more purposes than the Hudson Almshouse. Built in 1818, the building was initially designed to replace the inadequate shelter but has since taken on many different roles. After serving the homeless people, Dr. Samuel White saw an opportunity to develop an asylum that actually helped the afflicted.

Venture back to the beginning of the Hudson Almshouse with Hudson Ghosts and explore its history of peaks and valleys. Dig a little deeper into Dr. White’s work and compare his good nature to nefarious asylums around the nation. Learn about the asylum’s conversion into a female school and then from that into a private residence.

Hudson Ghosts chips away at the layers of years to uncover even more of the Almshouse’s past and the reasons it may play host to the otherworldly. As if having taken over the vacant building, the ghosts of the Almshouse are plentiful, and though all their stories can’t be known, there’s plenty of sorrow, remorse, and passionate anger that suggests it wasn’t a peaceful end.

Oddities from Above and Within

Trek into conspiracy theory territory with Hudson Ghosts at the Terry-Gillette House. The beautiful red facade home isn’t so fantastical on its own, but once you hear the stories about the mysterious black halo that once hung overhead, it’s difficult not to question its significance to something grander than what we can see.

Uncover the tales of strange anomalies in the sky, and listen to Hudson Ghosts, as the Terry-Gillette House is also a treasure trove of hauntings. As the home of two unassociated families for over 80 years, the mansion has retained the stories and memories of both—particularly the worst of them.

How she died remains a mystery, but her spirit aimlessly wanders the Terry-Gillette House in search of her body that was discovered on the top floor many years ago. Feel a chill run down your spine as the phantom from the Terry-Gillette Mansion calls out from the halls of the mansion. Who does her tortured soul ache for? Find out on a chilling Hudson ghost tour.

Why is Hudson so Haunted?

The Deadly Tracks on South 7th

In Hudson, very little isn’t touched by death in some way, and the nearby railroad tracks running along South 7th Street have bathed in their share of blood. The tale of Andrew Houghtaling is among the city’s more tragic ends; his life brutally cut short by poor decisions and a fatal collision.

For as much as he loved Hudson, even in death, Houghtaling remains a fixture of the city. Join Hudson Ghosts to revisit the unfortunate man’s final days and explore the many accounts of locals spotting the former oil company manager as he continues along his route as if nothing ever happened.

Is Houghtaling the specter to stroll along the tracks on South 7th? Hudson Ghosts may have some surprises in store, as it’s possible other unidentified haunts have been tied to the railway’s history.

The Demanding Spirit of Hudson Bush Farm

A fitting name for a barber shop in a city so rife with ghostly activity, Drop Dead Barber Shop is the perfect place to listen as Hudson Ghosts describes the terror at The Hudson Bush Farm. Spanning over 30 acres of Hudson’s otherworldly-charged land, it comes with its own tales from beyond the grave.

Follow Hudson’s complicated history, from a budding riverside town to a city falling into disrepair, through the eyes of the spirits residing within one of the city’s oldest homes. Hendrikc I Van Rensselaer may have built the house that sits on the Hudson Bush Farm back in the late 1700s, but some say he’s still present on the property today.

The former Revolutionary War veteran oversees the land today and is known to grow slightly agitated with others in his home. What annoys him to the point of stirring up unexplained activity? Find out on a bone-chilling ghost tour with Hudson Ghosts.

What’s so Special About the Hudson Ghosts Tour?

See A Different Side of The Friendly City

Across the street from 402 Warren sits a multi-story brick building that looks anything but terrifying. Yet, inside tells an entirely different story. Stand across from the ominous abandoned building as Hudson Ghosts recounts the tale of Henry Hogeboom and his partner, Richard Donovan.

A tragic end came for both lawyers and though Hogeboom died many miles away from the law offices he owned with his close friend, it hasn’t stopped him from returning to work. His presence is said to be why the building remains vacant today, his shadow enough to run off the workers hired to restore the building and bring it back from its worn state.

A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity to Uncover Hudson’s Haunted History

Broadway may be New York’s most well-known theater, but Hudson Hall predates it by more than 70 years. As the state’s oldest standing theater and a brilliant fixture of the community for many years, it’s not a shock that Hudson Hall is also a very haunted space, with some specters even returning to the limelight postmortem.

One such spirit fills the empty theater with haunting sounds that, in some realms, may pass for musical notes. Hudson Hall unknowingly hosts its variety show of haunts and apparitions, each tied to the stately building for their own personal reasons.

Be a Part of a Growing Ghostly Community

Hudson is not short on ghost stories, and where there’s a history sure to manifest specters and phantoms, there are people who seek out these haunting encounters. An evening with Hudson Ghosts invites you to become part of that community. Along with the haunted locations on the tour, you can engage one another about personal experiences.

Watch for a ghostly train, listen for the howls of a performing specter, and be on the lookout for a ghostly figure walking along train tracks when you book your Hudson ghost tour tonight!

* This is a walking tour and we do not enter privately-owned buildings or private property *

5 REASONS TO BOOK YOUR HUDSON GHOSTS TOUR RIGHT NOW

1) You felt a cold breeze with no source at Public Square

If you spent any time strolling through Public Square and suddenly felt an ice-cold chill against your skin, you just may have experienced the passing White Train. Hear more about the phantom locomotive during your time with Hudson Ghosts, and keep your eyes peeled for the passing white aura said to indicate that the train is making another round.

2) You’re interested in towns with a sordid and complicated history

Hudson has had a long and varied history. It started small, with a budding town growing near its namesake river. After pushing out the Natives, Hudson became an industrial hub, drawing in colorful characters from all over. The more the city deteriorated, the more negative energy it generated, resulting in haunts spawning all over. If you want to know how it got so bad, this tour will provide an overview of its highs and lows.

3) You want to witness a different side of New York

Everyone’s familiar with the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, but there’s a whole different side to New York. Hudson captures it perfectly with a slower pace, which is a refreshing step away from the bright lights and busy streets. As you immerse yourself in the ghostly tales of Hudson, appreciate the quieter atmosphere.

4) You love authentic small-town charm

You get a real sense of how small Hudson is by digging into its ghostly history. Repurposed buildings and railways cutting through public squares read like a town that’s not trying to inflate its population any. The small-town charm lends to some fascinating tales of the otherworldly that have been passed down from generation to generation.

5) You remember the Black Halos that soared over Hudson

It was a brief moment, but it set the town abuzz with conspiracy theories and questions. The black halo became an interesting event that some still talk about today. What was it? Where did it fly in from? Most importantly, was it friendly? A trip to the Terry-Gillette Mansion showcases a spot where it hovered, possibly leaving behind an imprint yet to be discovered.
