Welcome to Cowtown Ghosts

Wild West History Wreaks Havoc and Wakes the Ghosts of Cowtown

Fort Worth is predominantly known for its western heritage built upon cattle-herding and the authentic cowboys of Texas legend. In reality, a rosy-painted frontier life is marred by the true accounts of a disturbing and blood-soaked Wild West origin story. From street walkers and madams to gunslingers and gangsters, the individuals that once ran the streets now wander as lost souls still wreaking havoc in their wake.

The tragic struggles of survivors of the vicious crimes of outlaws left scattered remnants of a history buried deep beneath the surface of Fort Worth. Take a chilling Cowtown Ghosts tour to unearth a savage and horrific past filled with murder, suicide, disease, and deception hiding under its bright lights and rodeos.

WHAT WILL I SEE?

Fort Worth’s Not-So-Charming Reality Full of Horrors and Hauntings

You’re about to take a chilling tour into a time when the rebellious reigned supreme. You’ll begin and end your tour near Hell’s Half Acre, 2.5 acres where crime thrived. And it’s just a a taste of a frightening trip into an area of Fort Worth where the spirits just may outnumber the living.

The buildings we’ll show you may have survived the nightmare that was the real Wild West but continue to suffer from the residuals of the atrocities committed in those times. Residuals range from the spirits of young children to 82-year-old Eunice Gray, the former girlfriend of Sundance, half of the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid duo.

Uncomfortably haunted hotels, theaters filled with ghastly patrons from the beyond, and watering holes frequented by past apparitions are just a few types of locations you’ll be introduced to. You may even meet their nightly visitors. Join us for a thrilling and entertaining journey through real western times in the city that serves as a hub for cowboy-life, and the afterlife.

A Cowtown Home Where Ghostly Cowboys Roam

The westerns we see on television tell a story that masks the unsettling reality that was the Wild West… and Fort Worth was at its forefront. The land you’ll walk on is eerily known as the birthplace of Hell’s Half Acre and was once inhabited by some of the most notorious and infamous figures in the nation’s history.

Discover the Stockyards Hotel, built in 1904 by one of Fort Worth’s earliest developers, Colonel T.M. Thannisch. This impressive dwelling is home to the apparition of the colonel himself, often being spotted checking on his guests and his beloved building. A former famous rodeo rider is also said to call the Stockyards Hotel home.

As a guest of the hotel, you may just meet C.D. “Junior” Colwell, a famed courageous rodeo cowboy that was also famous for swindling people. Junior avoided jail time by committing suicide but is now eternally imprisoned in a hell of his own making, forever roaming the halls of the hotel searching for the love he left behind.

Of course, no cowboy can hold a candle to The Duke himself, Mr. John Wayne. Visit the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame where it’s said the apparition of the 6 foot 4 actor has been seen admiring the cowboy memorabilia on display.

WHY IS FORT WORTH SO HAUNTED?

Victims of Unjust Deaths and Terrifying Encounters with the Undead

Disease, danger, and death were just a few of the worries that befell the women whose hardships led them to take drastic measures to survive. Uncover the horrific backstory of Miss Molly’s Hotel, Fort Worth’s first bed and breakfast. Over the last century, it underwent a barrage of new identities, arriving at a brothel by the name of The Gayatte Hotel at one point. What will stand before you is a building dripping with despair.

Before it was a place for getaways, it was a place many women couldn’t escape. The twisted times in which these women lived led those with no options to turn to prostitution. The unexplained sightings and manifestations that have been recorded are believed to be those of the women that met tragic and horrendous ends.

Of course, with so much history coursing through the walls, it only makes sense that the women of the night (and the afterlife) are not the only ones frequenting this hotel. Should you choose to brave a night at Miss Molly’s, you run the chance of running into any number of spirits such as The Tipping Ghost, the former madam Josie King, or the Cowboy. If you weren’t a believer before, you just might be after this stop.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS GHOST TOUR?

See a Different, Darker Side of a Haunted Historic Destination

Fort Worth’s southern charm may be prevalent in its surroundings, but it can’t hide its scandalous past whose players have gone down in infamy. Visit the White Elephant Saloon, a premier tourist attraction that’s famous for being the site of the city’s last gunfight which featured Fort Worth’s most corrupt lawman, Sheriff Longhair Jim.

Learn how his unscrupulous reputation for murder and abuse of power led to his receiving poetic justice, parishing in a gunfight. Be careful as you visit the site of his demise as it’s said he still roams the streets in front of the White Elephant, looking for his next fight.

A Once-in-a-lifetime thrilling experience — An adventure you’ll cherish ‘till the end.

Ghosts of the bodies that once littered the grounds continue to be a part of the sinister side of Fort Worth that you will only hear about on a bone-chilling ghost tour of Fort Worth.

None of the apparitions that currently make a guest appearance in Fort Worth are as infamous as star-crossed lovers Bonnie and Clyde. The two stayed in room 305 while on the run in 1933 and, following their deaths a year later, reunited at the Stockyards Hotel. Keep one eye open as they may just stop by for an unannounced visit while you listen to the tales of the phantoms of Fort Worth.

If hearing the sordid details of the fugitive escapades of Bonne and Clyde doesn’t take your breath away, running into their ghosts should give you a shot of adrenaline that would kick a whole herd of cattle into gear.  It’s just the sort of thing a thrill-seeker looking for adventure in Texas is sure to remember for the rest of their lives…and beyond.

Be a Part of a Growing Ghostly Community

Whether you’re looking to connect with souls on the other side or you’re preparing for when you become a ghost yourself, nothing is quite like meeting your first ghost. Join us as we take you on a trip through an insidious history that not even a personality as big as the Lonestar State can outshine and get ready for the rush of adrenaline when you hear about, or encounter, your first apparition.

Beyond the primitive nature of its past, Fort Worth’s status as a landmark in western civilization is never more obvious than the ghost lights around the railroad tracks. One of the most well-documented sightings in the country, the ghost lights are seen in the form of lanterns and sometimes engine lights.

Each light serves as a reminder of the hundreds of lives lost developing this significant mode of transformation and the souls that are forever clamoring to be recognized and heard by anyone who cares enough to listen.
