Denton’s Most Haunted
A quiet town like Denton may appear quaint at first glance, but one must only scratch the surface to reveal its tarnished past. Tales of murder, hasty acts of violence, and the unearthly echoes left by these events charge its many buildings and grounds. Some locations are so rich with dark history, they will require deeper digging on your own.
While you may spy the old Denton Jail along our tour, in which a hanged man forever stained the structure of this lockup, you may wish to stay a little longer to experience its heavy atmosphere. Within these crumbling walls, the presence of a man sentenced to death lingers heavily in the air. Leaden footsteps follow staff and icy blasts of air bedevil the living, reminding all who enter that the threat of injustice is not a thing of the past.
The Courthouse Green remains another location you may wish to walk at your own leisure. Centered between several haunted locations, here, a man named Marshall Price was hung from a tree after being decided guilty by an enraged horde. According to legend, all who helped in this hasty act of vigilantism found themselves the victims of grim ends. One can only wonder how many of them joined the legion of spirits who haunt Denton today.
