Known as The Holy City and a beacon for southern culture, Charleston is a shining star of the south that calls to vacationers with its gorgeous scenery, an array of activities, and deep-rooted history. But the southern charm that exudes from its immaculate reputation and endearing locals dissipates in the face of its appalling past that continues to conjure itself up, serving as a reminder of a savage, merciless time.

Charleston is believed to be one of the most haunted cities in America due largely in part to its involvement in the Revolutionary War and its housing of some truly sadistic individuals who left their mark on history, and their souls in Charleston. Discover the places that flourish with phenomena and take in some liquid courage with Charleston Boos and Booze Haunted Pub Crawl.

Pirates, prisoners of war, the unjustly persecuted, and those who perished in horrendous fashion stalk the living who frequent the establishments that double as eternal penitentiaries for these troubled souls – the very places you’ll visit. Prepare for a night of spooky stories and spirits of both the liquid and otherworldly kinds as you visit Charleston’s most haunted pubs and fiendish institutions.

Charleston’s Haunted History

Established in 1690, Charleston, South Carolina has a woeful past that began back in the pirate era and stretched into two historic wars, emerging with a bloody line of casualties that have turned the city’s oldest buildings into a hotbed for paranormal activity. The sunny, cheerful disposition of this southern gem is a far cry from the death and despair that ravaged the very sites you’ll see on this haunted pub crawl.

Though built around religious freedom and places of worship, The Holy City is home to a plethora of unholy happenings that have spawned from inhumane and egregious acts. From imprisoning women and children to the point of their brutal deaths to housing the weapons that would claim the lives of thousands of soldiers, Charleston has been the site of some horrendous damage that resulted in a city of condemned souls.

Learn About Charleston’s Dark Side

This frightful hour kicks off with happy hour at The Blind Tiger Pub, one of several speakeasies established during prohibition that continues to operate successfully today serving the living and the dead. You’ll also visit The Griffon-Berry Hall which was once the site of the city’s orphanage before it burned down in 1918. Four children perished in the fire, possibly unaware of their passing as the sounds of child laughter and marbles rolling across the floor are regularly reported. Be sure to hold your drinks tightly – yours may be the next report.

Your walk through Downtown Charleston will take you to places where those drinks will come in handy. Charleston Terrors Haunted Pub Crawl takes you to St. Philip’s Protestant Episcopal Church Graveyard where you’ll hear terrifying tales of the ghost of Sue Howard Hardy, a woman who passed away after giving birth and wanders the cemetery in search of her child, or one she can take for herself.

Dreadful details of the aftermath of a deadly war, eerie encounters with the supernatural, and creepy accounts of the sound of disembodied voices are not only experiences you’ll hear, they might be some you experience for yourself. There’s no better way to uncover Charleston’s most popular haunts than with Charleston Terrors Haunted Pub Crawl!

Powder Magazine

A building constructed in the 1700s is bound to have a past, but Powder Magazine’s is one for the books. Originally built to store gunpowder and weapons, Charleston’s facility for destruction has had a part in some of the most brutal and significant wars in the nation’s history. The casualties of war who perished from these weapons are said to still roam the grounds, appearing in petrifying form to unsuspecting visitors – even those in groups.
