Stone Summit is one of Atlanta’s most popular attractions—and perhaps one of its most haunted. Find out its dark past on a tour with US Ghost Adventures.
The Stone Summit Climbing and Fitness center is a well-known rock climbing center in Atlanta. While it may not seem like your typically haunted building, the climbing center has seen some tragedies in recent years that give it its eerie reputation.
Uncover what makes this seemingly benign fitness center a place of ill-fortune and tragedy. US Ghost Adventures leaves no stone unturned on our tour of haunted Atlanta.
Stone Summit in Atlanta offers rock climbing to beginners and experienced climbers. The facility rents out equipment to customers to try their hand at climbing one of the several walls inside. They have walls for beginners and advanced climbers and even have trained staff to help teach the basics of climbing.
Over the years, some of the world’s best climbers have scaled the walls of Stone Summit. However, after a few accidents, the climbing facility created an extensive waiver for participants to sign before starting.
The staff takes safety incredibly seriously to avoid any further accidents that could harm both customers and the company’s reputation.
But no amount of safety protocols could prevent the accidents at Stone Summit involving climbers that have tarnished its reputation.
Perhaps one of the most famous accidents involving Stone Summit involved the rock climbing prodigy Ashima Shiraishi in 2016. Shiraishi (15 at the time) had completed some of the most treacherous climbs worldwide. In July 2016, she fell more than 45 feet after her rope slipped from her father’s hands.
While this kind of climbing accident is rare, it does happen and can be fatal. Shiraishi walked away from the accident with only minor injuries by some sort of miracle.
Although Stone Summit was technically not at fault, it was an event that adds to the idea that the place is potentially cursed.
In recent years, Stone Summit has garnered a reputation for being an unlucky place to climb. Locals report always seeing an ambulance leaving the place, usually due to accidents.
Something may haunt the grounds of the building so that climbers can’t scale the walls in peace. Or perhaps the vengeful spirit of a former employee or unsuccessful climber lingers here…
The numerous reports of spooky activity are why we had to add it to our list of stops in Atlanta. If any spirits are haunting Stone Summit Midway, you’re sure to find them during our tour.
