Before Europeans arrived in what is now North Carolina, the land was a part of the Cherokee nation. After the American Revolution, Colonel Samuel Davidson and his family received a land grant from the State of North Carolina to settle in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The early settlement paved the way for the future city of Asheville.
Asheville was an outpost for frontiersmen and Native people in 1797. Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett traveled through the Blue Ridge Mountains early on, and it served as a crossroads of Native American traveling trails, a plateau surrounded by mountains and rivers on all sides.
Asheville has always been an alluring place for explorers, visionaries and poets, and that tradition continues on to this day. A peaceful location, nestled up in the mountains, but what darker secrets lie in wait in the valleys of Asheville? Come along with us on a Spirits and Spirits haunted pub crawl and learn the history of Asheville in a new and exciting way!
